Bede Youth is a friendly, exciting programme for local young people aged 8 to 19. It’s packed with year-round, low-cost activities that are lively, thought-provoking and challenging. We thrive on adventure – especially on trips outside London during school holidays. Plus there’s always a buzz at our music studio and in our clubs. As one of our members says: “I like Bede because it’s fun”. Why not drop by and find out what’s happening?
Our Clubs
Monday Club: 6pm to 8.30pm term time for 16- to 19-year-olds (up to 25 years for people with special needs).
Tuesday Clubs: 6pm to 7.30pm for 8- to 10-year-olds and 6pm to 8.30pm for 11- to 13-year-olds.
Wednesday Club: 6pm to 8.30pm term time for 13- to 16-year-olds. Thursdays: We go out in our minibus on detatched youth work, contacting young people on local estates between 5pm and 8pm.
Each month we follow a four-week programme:
1st Week – Plan
Choose and plan your activities for the month, including issues you want to discuss, places you want to visit and skills you want to learn. Members must attend these planning sessions before taking part in the other sessions.
2nd Week – Learn a Skill
Based on your earlier choices, you can learn something new like cooking, ice skating or go-karting, or writing job application letters.
3rd Week – Discuss the big issues
This is your chance to discuss important issues affecting you and your friends. Sometimes we invite experts like lawyers, careers advisers or health workers to join the discussion.
4th Week – Film night
Together, we watch a film you’ve chosen, usually linked with the big issue that you raised. Afterwards, we enjoy refreshments while we discuss the movie.
SummerFun@Bede
Every summer we provide fun, challenging and positive activities for young people aged 8-18 who live or attend school in Southwark.
We also go away for short residential stays at activity centres in England or Wales. Recent adventurous activities include horse riding in the forests and gorges of South Wales, dry slope skiing and indoor skydiving.
Kitchen Social
The Mayor’s Fund for London is a social mobility charity that helps 330 community organisations offer a healthy food and social development programme during the school holidays. See what happened when Bede got assistance from the fund.
