Become a Friend of Bede

Become a Friend of Bede and play a key role in helping us to continue our important work. Choose one of six ways – and make an immediate impact on someone’s life.

Make a regular donation

Bede does a lot with very little! As an example:

  • £5 per month provides lunch for a volunteer who has learning disabilities
  • £10 per month buys materials for a Bede youth club art and craft session. These activities allow quieter young people to express themselves.
  • £50 per month enables a Bede worker to assess the risks facing a client who is experiencing domestic violence. They can then create a safety plan together.

One-off single payments are equally welcome, of course. We thank you for supporting Bede.

Volunteer with us

Bede could not exist without our exceptional volunteers, who provide invaluable help at fundraising events or give time regularly to our projects.

Give your skills and knowledge

Friends of Bede offer specialist skills and knowledge to drive Bede’s work.

Raise much-needed funds

Friends of Bede can organise their own event or activity. Almost any event can be sponsored so the opportunities are infinite!

Discover Give as you Live and support Bede through Amazon

Shop online with thousands of stores and raise money for Bede with every purchase – at no cost to you. Get great offers from leading brands while helping Bede. Everyone benefits!

In addition, when ordering goods through Amazon or its associated websites, do please use their charity donation facility, AmazonSmile. Bede will then receive a percentage of your purchase. Again, it’s simple to set up, there is no extra cost to you – and the small amounts earned add up to a significant sum for us.

Remember Bede in your will and create an enduring legacy

When you leave a gift to Bede in your will, your generosity lives on for generations to come.

Since 1938, Bede has relied on donations like yours to drive our vital work.

Your legacy will change the lives of Southwark people most in need. It will enable:

  • people with learning disabilities to socialise, volunteer and learn skills for paid work.
  • youngsters to make friends in a safe space and take part in a host of stimulating activities.
  • those experiencing domestic abuse to receive counselling and support.
  • local people to come together in community programmes and events.

Help with writing your will

Find out more about how to write or update your will to include a gift to Bede at Gov.UK. The independent professional body The Law Society can offer advice and direct you to a local solicitor. There are also many online will writing services.

Remember a loved one through Bede

Celebrate the life of a loved one by making a donation to Bede in their memory. You might also wish to ask friends and family to donate to Bede instead of giving flowers at a funeral. Your funeral director can help you to arrange this.

With your support, we can continue to enrich the lives of vulnerable people in our communities. Please help us to ensure that Bermondsey and Rotherhithe are happy, vibrant places to live and work.

We invite you to remember Bede and to create an enduring legacy.

Looking ahead

As a Friend of Bede you’ll receive our regular newsletter with updates on all our activities. We’ll also invite you to the Bede Annual General Meeting, with the opportunity to meet other Friends and see how your support has benefited Bede.

In addition, if you make a donation of £1000 or more to our Capital Appeal for the New Bede Centre, you could have your name acknowledged on a new piece of artwork specially commissioned to celebrate donors.
