Bede Learning Disabilities project are excited to welcome a new Travel Buddy to the team. Taiwo, who has been volunteering at Bede for the past 3 years, completed her travel training at the beginning of February and will work with a client escorting him in a taxi from home to Bede 3 days a week providing him with a reliable service and consistent support.

Taiwo completed assessments and training during 2024/2025 and was carefully selected for the role. She spent time building a rapport with the client at the centre, reviewing his client profile and risk assessments. Travel training began in February 2026, with Taiwo shadowing staff in the taxi before being signed off and now confidently working independently.

The travel escort contract for the client had previously been managed by another provider. While arrangements were being finalised for Bede’s new contract with Southwark Council, Taiwo took the opportunity to broaden her skill set by supporting administrative tasks on Lamplight. She has been a real asset, and we are delighted to have her on the team.
