Bede is sorry to learn about the recent passing of Russell Dryden, a supporter and Friend of Bede. Russell, a ‘real Bermondsey character’, was instrumental in forming the Bermondsey Improvement District (BID) to help grow businesses in the ‘Blue’ market area of Southwark Park Road, where he worked.
Russell was first and foremost known as the ‘fish man’, owing to the fishmonger’s stall he ran for over 40 years. He was also a community champion and a naturally gifted guitarist and singer. A positive, friendly character, ready with a quip or some philosophical insight, Russell will be missed.
